'Coachability', 'coach-ability' or 'Coach ability' is a term that has been used over the past years and has had many different terms, opinions and meanings. It is not the ability of a coach to do a handstand or do a series of circus tricks.
It is about that ability of coaches, athletes, parents and all those involved to work together in the best interests of the athlete.
Gordon Church, former Australian Short Track Speed Skater, and one of Australia's top Short Track coaches believes that this a key point....if not one of the most fundamental principle between all those with interests of the skater. He says that...
"In my experience, it's starts (coach-ability) with a conversation which will include the athlete, the family and the coach.
It's a relationship of trust, respect and mutual understanding of everyones roll, responsibilities and expectations.
When this process is working, you can set goals and follow your dreams."
Gordon make a fantastic point in that for anyone to achieve their goals...however high or low...it is a team effort.
