I was recently speaking to Gordon Church, former Australian International Short Track Speed Skater and one of Australia's top Short Track coaches. Gordon says that when starting off in short Track, or for even those experienced skaters that...
"...an athlete's preparedness starts with respect for everyone and for the processes involved."
Gordon also wants all skaters, at whatever level to ensure that...
"...When engaging in any sport, you and the coaches are there to have fun, learn, explore and enjoy the experience."
This is such a crucial point from Gordon. Work hard and enjoy the sport whatever your aims and goals are.
In terms of the early development years then skill acquisition is a key to success. all worldwide coaches will agree with this. However particularly Gordon states that...
"Skill acquisition is one of keys to success, the fundamental principles of ice skating, speed skating and (my favorite) "Short Track Speed Skating" is crucial to the development of all."
Gordon's final tip in this blog is that as skaters, coaches, officials and supporters...
"....the key is owning your sport and exploring this exciting new experience"
